Wednesday, September 26th
The day dawned fairly darkly, partly
because it was overcast, and partly because the sun is rising later and later
as the days get shorter - the end of daylight saving is still a way off.
We had the usual breakfast, and prepared to
make our “run” across the Etaing de Thau, something that neither of us was
really looking forward to. Somewhere between breakfast and departure the English couple quietly
slipped away, hopefully not to a disastrous canal boating holiday and relationship breakdown.
There was a slight wind, and a small swell on
the estuary as we relatively easily found our way into the port of Meze, half
way across. Prue had to be reminded of the need for Sea Bands!
We had heard some nice things about Meze, and while we wouldn’t
stay the night, we found a spot in the almost full port, and then had a short walk
and a coffee
From Meze to Bouziques, our destination for
the night, it was a similar journey to the first half of the trip. However, we really could have done with binoculars, and the telephoto lense on the camera
was a useful substitute.
By the time we got into Bouzigues we were in site of Sete, and our eventual escape from the lake and back into the canal system.

Another very helpful member of the
Capitainerie helped us dock:
...and we took a short walk around the small port
and town. The streets were very quiet, but being lunchtime the restaurants were
not. There is plenty of choice for tonight’s dinner
We had the last of our pate and bread for our own more simple lunch, and for a change, a glass of red:
While reading and napping the weather changed and the overcast conditions turned to rain. It’s not heavy, and it hasn’t seriously affected visibility (yet) so we hope we will make it into the Canal du Rhone a Sete tomorrow, and into Lattes tomorrow night. Let's also hope that the weather improves.
At least the Coquillage dinner was delicious and entirely appropriate - if I'm going to keep the Etaing clean for the shellfish then I'm going to eat the buggers as well:
